BKS urges CM to reject appeal of testing BT, GM/HT seeds in MP

Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) protesting against BT Cotton and Genetically Modified (GM) seeds submitted a memorandum addressing to Prime Minister, Union Agriculture Minister and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh through Jabalpur Collector on Thursday. BKS demanded the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to reject appeal of testing BT and GM/HT seeds testing in Madhya Pradesh also warned that if permission granted by the State then BKS will stage massive protest. Bharatiya Kisan Sangh termed BT, GM seeds permissions is putting human health, environmental pollution, market autonomy and agriculture productivity and production of the country at stake. “Prior to permission on analysis on these factors is very necessary,” said Vijay Gontia, State President of BKS, Mahakoshal Prant.
 
He was accompanied by State Treasurer, Omnarayan Pachori, Raghvendra Patel, Pushpraj Singh Chandel, District President, Mohan Tiwari, Ramdas Patel, Damodar Patel, Ramkrishna Soni and others. He said recently Genetic Engineering Assessment Committee, Government of India has permitted second testing of GM seeds, crop BT Brinjal in Madhya Pradesh. BKS strongly criticised the decision of GEAC. Contrast to this other established institutions like Parliamentary Permanent Committee, Supreme Court’s Technical Committee have expressed doubts. BKS has demanded the Madhya Pradesh Government to refuse application on permission of testing in State.
