IN a broad daylight incident, two armed miscreants looted Rs 13 lakh from a cash van while it was heading to replenish an ATM on Friday. The bike-borne culprits also shot at the van driver and the gunman before escaping. While the cash van driver died on the spot, the critically-injured gunman is under treatment in Fortis Jindal Hospital.
 
“The incident took place at around 2 pm at Kirodimalnagar Azad Chowk under Kotraroad police station limits”, said Kotraroad Station House Officer Yuvraj Tiwari adding that police are investigating the incident from every angle. However, the identities of the deceased driver and injured gunman are yet to be ascertained, According to the SHO, a private cash van had arrived to deposit cash in State Bank of India’s ATM at Kirodimalnagar.
 
No sooner did the cash van stopped in front of ATM, two masked bike borne youths armed, reached the spot on CD Deluxe motor-cycle and shot dead the van driver. They also opened fire at the guard and left him critically injured before escaping with cash. A man who was sitting on pillion seat fired at people present there however no casualties were reported. The incident panicked local people and commuters who witnessed the looters committing the crime. Matter was reported to police and subsequently, a team of police personnel reached the spot. Driver’s body was sent for post-mortem while injured gunman was rushed to Fortis Jindal Hospital for treatment. The entire incident was recorded on a CCTV camera installed nearby and police are checking every aspect.
 
Meanwhile, police sources informed that miscreants were dressed in blue coloured track suit. The bullets fired hit on the head of the driver killing him on spot and another bullet fired hit gunman on his stomach. Total six rounds were fired by looters who escaped towards Chiraipani Bhupdevpur after the incident. The area has been sealed and a team of police personnel have been deployed and check-posts have been erected on all exit routes. Information has also been given to nearby police station.
