Around 18 cities in Madhya Pradesh gets star rating for garbage free cities. Indore had worked hard to bring the Seven Star rating this time. Last year, only three cities were able to make it to the five star rating. The teams of the Ministry Of Housing And Urban Affairs (MoHUA) visited State capital on January 2020 to verify the claims of Bhopal for seven-star rating Garbage Free Cities (GFC) component of Swachh Survekshan 2020.

BMC was eyeing on 7-star garbage free rating to secure 1000 additional marks under the survey. In 2019 Bhopal had applied for the seven star ratings but it got only 2-stars and its position in overall ranking dropped to 19. BMC is now focused on garbage segregation once again and post lockdown a special bin is also added for bio-medical waste including used mask and used PPE kits.
