ON BEHALF of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, a Webinar under the Youth Welfare Programme on ‘Drowning Prevention, Life Saving and Water Safety’ was jointly organised by Deputy Director, Divisional Sports Complex, Nagpur and JD Sports Foundation. During inaugural function of the Webinar, Supriya Badwe, Chief Executive Director of Badwe Group and the Chief of Sports India expressed the strong possibility of youth employment on a large scale at the Disaster Management Programme and called upon particularly for the youth residing at the sea shore or those who are really interested and have a liking in Disaster Management should come forward and complete the training.

Assistance of local youth becomes vital at the time of disaster and therefore it becomes necessary to educate the youth for disaster management, she urged. Onkar Navlihalkar gave detailed information about working of disaster management at the national and state level. Dr Jaiprakash Duble, Joint Director of Sports of Maharashtra State also emphasised on importance of role of youth in disaster management and also expressed that it is the need of the hour to have a knowledge of disaster management. To achieve this goal such Webinar plays an important role, he further said. While talking on the subject ‘Drowning Prevention’ Rear Admiral PD Sharma, President RLSS emphasised on the need to follow rules and guidelines to be safe.
 
He further advised the parents/teachers to pay special attention to their wards at the picnic spots and water park. Second-in-Command Sachidanand Gawade, 5th Battalion NDRF, Pune gave detailed information about different types of disasters and also how important is the participation of local youths at the time of disaster. Gawade also informed that at the time of disaster how NSS, NYK, NCC and self-help groups youth are taking responsibilities at the disaster site. Gawade also gave information about ‘Aapada Mitra’. It is need of the hour that everyone should learn swimming and if it is not possible then it is necessary to know how people die due to drowning and what precaution should be taken to avoid that.
 
To save yourself first and then how to save others, the information about this was given in detail by General Secretary of JD Sports Foundation and the Organising Secretary of the Webinar Jayant Duble. Avinash Pund, Dy Director of Sports, Nagpur Division proposed a vote of thanks. He expressed that self-help groups should voluntarily come forward in large numbers for disaster management. The Webinar was successfully conducted by Sports Officer Maya Duble while the technical assistance was provided by Amar Bhandawar.
