NAG Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) has appealed to Maharashtra Energy Minister and Guardian Minister of Nagpur Dr Nitin Raut to give concession in electricity bills generated during the lockdown period. In a memorandum submitted to Dr Raut, Ashwin Mehadia, President of Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce said, “Concession in electric bills should be given during the lockdown period for the months of March, April and May.”

He further highlighted that first the lockdown was announced since March 19 and phasewise it was extended upto May 31, which continued till June 4. Making the Energy Minister aware of the difficulties being faced during the period by traders, they requested Dr Nitin Raut to give some concessions in the electricity bills to the traders and others. “During the unlock phase 1 heavy electricity bills were generated by the power distribution company which has created great unrest among the traders and citizens too,” Mehadia said. Ramavtar Totla, Secretary of NVCC added that not only traders, but even the common man is facing financial crisis.

There was no earning for the period of three months of lockdown and the expenses like bank installment, rent of shops, wages of employees, telephone bills etc., remained the same. “State Government of neighbouring states have already charged Rs 100 per month for the lockdown period which is very reasonable,” Totla said. It is important to note that Raut had given assurance to the traders to give relief in the bill but the State Government has so far done nothing in this regard.
