Mystery shrouds over the untimely death of Rajnish Dass, a Technician with Electrical Department of South East Central Railway’s Nagpur Division, has deepened further as the spot where he was found stuck is supposed to be no man’s land. Dass was on day duty on Sunday at sub-station located at premises of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) office. As per new information, Dass was found stuck in a trench near the electrical sub-station leaving everyone further puzzled. No railway employee even during day time ventures to the spot where Dass was found stuck among the cables, said the sources. Prima facie employees said electrocution could be a reason but they are unable to understand reason for Dass straying in that part of campus. The spot where the Technician was located is behind the sub-station that is exactly behind office of Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction) of SECR.

He was found in a trench from where high tension cables pass just after the compound wall facing Mohan Nagar side of the road adjoining DRM office. Dass was an ace cricket player and would open for the team and well-known name in the sports circle of railways. When Dass was not found in the room where Technicians normally sit his reliever undertook search in adjoining places but could not locate him. After personnel of Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrived on scene a full fledged hunt was undertaken and the employee was found at unlikely place.

The sub-station is joint property of Central Railway and SECR catering to needs of both railway divisions. Dass was found outside the sub-station building and one does not know whether he had gone to answer nature's call or was attending to some electrical fault. People in know the layout of the area said the cables are well secured and there is no chance of return current also. So whether Dass suffered electrical shock or was bitten by something causing his death will be known only after receipt of post mortem report.

Staffers feel agitated over senior officials’ stance

In aftermath of death of Rajnish Dass, railway employees are agitated at stance of their senior officers. They say deputing of single employee, that too, at electrical installation is simply unfathomable. In case of any emergency how a single person is going to handle the situation and questioned, “Aren’t their lives important?” Even for attending a simple fuse call two persons are deployed and at SECR at sub-station why only single person was deployed, asked an agitated employee. If the officers think that sub-station work is not so important they can simply lock down the premises and deploy security guard to man the installation and redeployed technicians are some other useful places. And if the electrical installations are important then atleat two persons should be on duty in single shift so that in case of any emergency urgent help can be rendered by other person to his colleague. In case of Dass he was all alone and had there been other person on duty perhaps his life could have been saved, feel the railway employees.
