Another spike of 71 COVID-19 cases in city

On Tuesday morning, the coronavirus positive cases of Nagpur reached 25. But, late afternoon another 46 added and the total number stood at 71. With these, the city crossed 1,800 mark taking the cumulative number to 1,847. Out of 71 cases, major number of 23 came positive in the virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH). All these 23 samples came from Central Prison taking the total positive case of Prison to 126. Out of total positive cases detected on Tuesday, apart from IGGMCH, 16 samples came positive at the molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Samples tested positive at the laboratory of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), private laboratories, Lata Mangeshkar Hospital.
 
A 45-year-old man from Bhandewadi died of coronavirus registering 16th COVID-19 death of the city. The person was admitted on Sunday at IGGMCH in critical condition. He was kept in Intensive Care Unit. His was the case of chronic alcohol with bilateral lung fibrosis. He passed away on Tuesday morning. 3 cops infected with coronavirus Two Women Assistant Police Inspectors (WAPIs) and a Driver of Nagpur Police were found infected with novel coronavirus on Tuesday. A police official informed that a WAPI and a Driver attached to Special Branch (SB) and another WAPI from Economic Offences Wing (EoW) were tested positive on Tuesday.
 
Two days before, a WPI from SB was found infected with the virus. The growing number of COVID-19 cases has caused concern in the City Police as four policemen are found infected with the virus. Sources informed that Officers and Staff of the Police Control Room, SB, Passport Department, EoW are in a panic after detection of new cases. City registers 16th coronavirus death On July 5, Nagpur registered 15th coronavirus death and within two days another death came taking the total deaths to 16. Death of a woman of Dobi Nagar, Mominpura was Nagpur’s 14th death. There is bizarre coincidence about the coronavirus deaths that took place in city. Nagpur registered 13th Covid 19 death, 9 days after the 12th death. 12th death took place on June 8 while 13th death occurred on June 17. The 14th death that was registered on Friday has also come 9 days after the 13th death.
 
First one died of corona was a 68- -year-old Satranjipura resident who had severe pneumonia. Second one was a 70-year-old Mominpura resident died of cardiac arrest, third and fourth were the youngsters of ages 22 and 29, residents of Parvati Nagar and Pandharabodi respectively. Both had Satranjipura connection. Fifth death was registered in Nagpur when a 65-year-old resident of Khalasi Nagar, Gaddigodam succumbed to Acute Respiratory Disease Syndrome (ARDS). A 56-year-old Shantinagar resident was brought dead at IGGMCH who did not have any travel history, any close connection to any positive, suspect. His was the sixth death. On May 18, the seventh corona death took place wherein a 53-year-old woman, suffering from diabetes died. She was the resident of Mominpura. In fact, on consecutive three days--May 16, 17 and 18 three persons died of corona.
 
After May 18, Nagpur did not register a single corona death till May 24, when the eighth death took place. Nagpur registered first death of cancer patient later tested positive for corona on May 27, the eighth corona death of the city. Then ninth and 10th deaths came in succession. A 42-year-old man, a resident of Sheikh Bari chowk, Hansapuri passed away which was 12th death that too had come after passage of nine days of 11th death.
 
A 64-year-old man from Kandri-Kanhan died. There was no history of his death. But the administration sent his sample to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) after his death that tested positive. This was 13th death. Nagpur registered 11th death on June 8. After nine days 13th death took place. The 14th death took place on June 26. After nine days, 15th death (on July 5) was registered and after two days on July 7 city registered 16th death. 
 
Coronavirus cases cross 1,800 mark On Tuesday (July 7) Nagpur registered 71 coronavirus positive cases and cumulative number reached 1,847. It means it took city to complete last 100 cases in two days. First 100 of the positive cases came after 44 days of the testing of first positive for coronavirus. Within 10 days positive cases in Nagpur completed 200 cases. After seven days, city crossed 300 mark and within next 10 days, the coronavirus positive cases in Nagpur crossed 400. It took 7 days for city to cross 500 cases while after the passage of five days the corona positive cases touched 600 mark.
 
The city crossed cumulative number 700 after the passage of four days of touching 600th corona positive case. Another 100 came within five days taking the total to 800. It took only one day for the corona positive cases to jump 900 from 800. Corona positive cases touched 1,000 within four days after it crossed 900. The cumulative number reached 1,100 mark three days back--on June 17. On June 20 the number of corona positive cases crossed 1,200 mark, immediately after three days, it reached 1,300 mark. After five days (June 28) the total crossed 1,400 mark. After three days the total reached 1,500 (July 1) and within two days the cases crossed 1,600. When the total jumped from 1,400 to 1,500 it took three days. It took only two days for corona positive cases to reach 1,700 mark.
 
NMC notifies 8 containment zones Though number of new COVID-19 positive cases in city are well below the national average, a worrying factor is spread of infection in multiple areas at a time. Solitary cases emerging for diverse residential localities is a matter of worry for the civic officials as the machinery gets stretched quite far and wide as containment zones demarcation is necessary. Within last few days fresh cases emerged in ones and twos from four to five localities of city.
 
Though as per new norms only a limited area is sealed or otherwise a vast part of city would have under containment zone and it would have been tough to control the entry and exit in such places as various agencies were already stretched to limit during the lockdown period. Now, on Tuesday, NMC notified about eight containment zones that were added during last few days. Apart from that sealed area of New Gadgebaba Nagar in Prabhag-28 of Nehru Nagar Zone-5 has been curtailed after assessing fresh medical data about people in isolation and quarantine. Neelkamal Nagar: The area falling under Prabhag-29 at Narsala in Hanuman Nagar Zone-3 of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) was sealed.
 
The boundary is to South East-plot no. 189, Vilas Patil's house, South West-plot no. 68, Suresh Wankhede's house, North West-plot no. 96, Pramila Mandavkar's house, North East-plot no. 76, Naresh Ramteke's house. Ashirwad Nagar: This locality comes in Prabhag-30 and is part of Nehru Nagar Zone-5. The sealed area is to East-Nandkishor Thombre's house, West-Mushtaq Sheikh's house, North-Pramod Goje's residence, South-Rameshlal Shah's house. Lodhipura: The area near Haj House in Prabhag-19 of Gandhibagh Zone-6 was also sealed. It's boundary includes to South East-Haj House, North East-S K Yunus Abdul Razzaq's house, North West-GNS Finer Agency, South West-Vikas Auto Agency. Reshimbagh: One of the prominent locality of city, the area near Smurti Mandir, saw one building put under containment area. It comes in Prabhag-31 of Hanuman Nagar Zone-3 of NMC.
 
The area is to North-from Ambadas Mehta's house till Pushpanjali Apartment, East-Pushpanjali Apartment to Warade's house, South-Warade's house till Sangh office gate, West-Sangh office gate (Mahajan) to Ambadas Mehta's house. Mahatma Phule Nagar: The locality on outskirts of city comes in Prabhag-34 of Hanuman Nagar Zone-3. The sealed area boundary is to North-Korde's to Anturkar’s house, East-Anturkar's to Hiwse's house, South-Hiwse house till electrical pole no. G/9, West-from electrical pole till Korde's house. Prem Nagar: The area again figured in containment zone after emergence of new COVID-19 patients.
 
The locality is part of Prabhag-21 in Satranjipura Zone-7. The limits of area sealed includes to North East-Ajabrao Wande's house, South East-Kirti Bhajpiya house, South West-M Moutekar's house, North West-Rahul Umredkar's house. Mehendibagh Road: A small part on the one of the main road in Binaki area inter-connecting North and East Nagpur was put under containment. The area falls in Prabhag-5 of Satranjipura Zone No. 7.
 
The limits of area sealed includes to North East-Rokde's house, East-Bunty Dhurve's to Wakodikar's house, South East-Sarode's Frame Works, West-Hiranwar's house to Shiv Temple, North-Taj Pan Palace. Bhole Baba Nagar: This area comes in Prabhag-34 of Hanuman Nagar Zone-3. The containment zone limit is to North-plot no. 365, Vaishnodham Apartment, East-plot no. 354 to 362 Renuka Ma Kiran Store, South-Renuka Stores to plot no. 354, Bajare's house, West-Bajare’s house to Vaishnodham, plot no. 372, to plot no. 366. New Gadgebaba Nagar: A major portion of the area was moved out of containment zone giving relief to citizens. New boundary of the area coming in Prabhag-28 of Nehru Nagar Zone-5 is to North-Bandu Tijare's house, East-Gopal Misal's house, South-Shriram Kothe's house, West-Relief Family Centre.
