IN Order to restart dine-in restaurants in the city which are closed due to lockdown imposed by the Government to contain the spread of coronavirus, Swapnil Ahirkar, President of NCP Business Cell, Nagpur and Amit Dongre met Ram Joshi, Additional Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur. On the occasion, a representation was handed over to Joshi. In the meeting, Ahirkar appraised the Commissioner about the various problems the dine in restaurants were facing.

He requested Joshi to consider the genuine demands and allow restaurants to open as they have been closed for four months. The food and hospitality sector provides employment to large number of people. Also, the sector offers various types of jobs to workers. “On an average, a restaurant employs directly or indirectly 80 to 100 skilled and unskilled workers,” he said. Ahirkar said that unemployment has been one of the unfortunate and devastating after effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to shutting down of the dine in restaurant services, both the employer and employees have suffered huge financial and mental loss. “It has been 4 months and not opening of the dine in restaurants is only going to worsen the condition of the already suffering workforce,” he said.

“The dine-in restaurant owners agree that safety of everyone is of utmost importance. Hence, they assure that they will always take the best measures to keep everyone’s safety as their top priority,” he added. Ahirkar said that all dine-in restaurants should be allowed to start operations at the earliest. They would help generate employment to jobless people and also revenue for the State Government.
