Shiv Sena’s suspended city chief Mangesh Kadao, who was booked for six cases of extortion and fraud, was arrested by Crime Branch on Wednesday evening. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Detection Gajanan Rajmane informed ‘The Hitavada’ that Kadao was arrested from Pandhrabodi area of City. “Our teams were continuously searching for him and zeroed in on him on Wednesday evening at Pandhrabodi,” DCP Rajmane said. “As he was accused in six cases of extortion and frauds, we require his police custody for interrogation,” he added. Meanwhile, five new complaints are under investigation against Kadav. Sources claimed that after arrest of his wife Dr Ruchita (38), a resident of Abhyankar Nagar, Kadao was preparing for surrender. A total of five cases have been registered against Kadao at various police stations in the city.

In the first case, Vikram Madhukar Labhe (47), a resident of Shivaji Nagar, had purchased a house at Bharat Nagar in 2012. Labhe had kept cash, gold ornaments, a television set, a refrigerator and other household goods collectively worth Rs five lakh in his house at Bharat Nagar. After coming to know that Labhe had shifted to Hyderabad with his family last year, Kadao and three of his accomplices gained entry into the house after breaking-open the door lock and illegally took possession of the property. Kadao and his men then allegedly stole the cash, gold ornaments and household goods from Labhe’s house. Kadao then demanded Rs 1.50 crore from Labhe for giving him possession of the house. He and men allegedly thrashed Labhe and threatened him of dire consequences.

In another case, Kadao had made an agreement towards the sale of his shop with 48-year-old Devanand Babasaheb Shirke, a resident of Raghuji Nagar, in November 2013. Shirke had given Rs 18 lakh to Kadao at the time of agreement. As per the agreement, the remaining amount of 3.50 lakh was to be given by Shirke at the time of registry. Since then, Shirke was requesting Kadao to register the property in his name. Instead of executing the sale deed of the shop, Kadao fradulently mortgaged the same property with the bank and availed loan of Rs 50 lakh. Kadao then demanded Rs 20 lakh cash from Shirke after threatening to kill his family. In third case, Dinesh Admane (42), a resident of Old Subhedar Layout had made an agreement towards purchase of a flat at Amrita Apartment, Manewada Cement Road, for Rs 16 lakh in 2013 from Mangesh and Ruchita Kadao. Admane had given Rs 15 lakh to him.

It was agreed that remaining Rs one lakh would be given by Admane at the time of executing the saledeed. Instead of giving possession of the flat to Admane, Mangesh and Ruchita Kadao availed loan from Shriram City Union Finance Ltd by mortgaging the property. When Admane approached Mangesh, the latter allegedly refused to return Rs 15 lakh and issued life threats to him. Fifth case was registered against Kadav for duping a youth to the tune of Rs 6 lakh on pretext of providing him job as a TTE in the railways. A Mercedes car, BMW car and a Harley-Davidson belonging to him were seized by the police.
