Opposing guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC) to conduct examination of college students, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged protest on Wednesday. The demonstrating members of NSUI burnt copy of UGC guidelines saying that the Commission is playing with lives of students. NSUI said, the State Government has already ordered general promotion to students following corona crisis. They said in such circumstances, why UGC is suggesting to conduct the examination. NSUI said most of the universities and colleges have not completed even half of the syllabus of students.

Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, NSUI State Speaker Vivek Tripathi said, “This is kind of a prank with students. If UGC does not withdraw the orders, we will hold massive demonstration. Concerned over the health of students during COVID-19 pandemic, UGC should immediately take back the orders.” He further said, universities have already started preparations to declare the result with general promotion to students. Meanwhile UGC is suggesting to conduct the examination.

Notably, UGC has released revised guidelines on examination and academic calendar for universities in view of COVID-19 pandemic. The Commission approved recommendations of expert committee regarding conduct of semesters or exams by universities to be completed by end of September in offline or online mode.
