Out of 30 candidates whose interviews were held in last two days for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), the names of five would be given to Chancellor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Saturday. There were around 130 applications received by the search panel headed by former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Dilip Bhosale with Principal Secretary Dr Sanjay Chahande and Chairman, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.
 
Abhay Karandikar was another member. Karandikar was nominated by the management and academic council of RTMNU as per the rule. Out of those 130, around 30 were given the interview calls which were conducted on Thursday and Friday. Now the search panel would send five selected names to Chancellor on Saturday. Later on the final interaction with Chancellor would be fixed to select the Vice-Chancellor of RTMNU. Unlike in the past, the process for the selection of Vice-Chancellor was conducted a bit faster. Dr S P Kane after enjoying full five-year term got retired in the first week of April and Dr Murlidhar Chandekar, Vice-Chancellor of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University was given the additional charge of the Vice-Chancellor of RTMNU.
 
Some of the important and city-connected names those figure in 30 candidates, who appeared for the interview, include Dr Prakash Khodke, key person in All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Dr N S Chaudhary, former Director of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Dr Raju Mankar, former Vice-Chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (BATU) now Director of Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT), Dr Vinayak Deshpande, former acting Vice-Chancellor of RTMNU, Dr Pradip Kundal, senior Professor with Post Graduate Department of Geology and eminent Educationist; Dr Ujwala Chakradev, Principal Smt Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture, Dr Jyotsna Meshram, Head, Department of Post Graduate Chemistry, RTMNU; Dr K C Deshmukh, former Head, Post Graduate Department of Mathematics; Dr Anant Deshmukh, Head, Post Graduate Department of Business Management, RTMNU; Dr Khan Zafar Jawed, former Dean of Engineering Faculty, RTMNU; Dr S R Chaudhary, Pro-Vice Chancellor of RTMNU; Dr Satish Sharma, Head, Post Graduate Department of Electronics, RTMNU; Dr Hemant Hazare, Principal of ITM College, Kamptee. While Registrar of Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai R Premkumar worked as the Nodal Officer, the Deputy Registrar of RTMNU Wasim Ahmed was the Liasoning Officer.
