Eco-Pro reiterates commitment to conserve forests

The activists of Eco-Pro organisation tied ‘Rakhis’ to trees in the forest of Lohara-Mamla in a traditional gesture of their dedication towards protection and conservation of forest for the sake of future generation. Eco-Pro organisation has made it a tradition to repeat their commitment for protection of Lohara-Mamla forest after the organisation had fought tooth and nail and successfully thwarted the move of Adani Group of Industries to establish opencast mine there by destruction of around 2000 hectare of forest, back in year 2009. Government has allocated around 2,000 hactare of forest for the mining purpose.
 
Citizens and environmentalists had joined hands to refute the Adani mine in pristine forest. Thus to relive the memories of the successful agitation and take the massage of conservation to the future generation every year ‘Vruksha-Raksha Bandhan’ programme is held in the forest. However, the programme was held at small scale due to ongoing Covid -19 pandemic. Eco Pro President Bandh Dhotre, RFO BN Chide, Dr Yogeshwar Dudhpachare, forester, PM Zade and members of Eco-Pro organsiations were present during the programme.
 
President Bandu dhotre claimed that Chandrapur district gained a new identity as ‘Tiger District’. The district also has the world famous Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Project. The growing number of tigers in the district has also sparked a worldwide attraction.
 
The district is rich in natural resources including forest and wildlife. This resources have attracted mineral based industries to the district a large number of coal mine project, coal based power project has come to Chandrpaur due to large deposits of coal here. However, the activists hold that the rich deposits under the ground could not be worth cutting of pristine forest which now houses dozens of tigers everywhere. Leaders of Eco Pro Dharmendra Lunawat, Kishore Vaidya, Sanjay Sabbanwar, Sunil Patil, Vijay Hedau, as well as forest workers MA Dhurve, PM Mankar, RK Uike, LP Danagre and Amol Utalwar were present.
