THE trio of young city speed merchants Aditya Thakare, Saurabh Dubey and Nachiket Bhute have been rewarded for their consistency by different Indian Premier League (IPL) franchisees. India pacer Umesh Yadav is the only regular IPL player from the city while young all-rounder Darshan Nalkande, who will be having his second season with Kings XI Punjab, is yet to make his debut. It will be a huge step for Thakare, Dubey and Bhute, who have been picked as net bowlers for thirteenth edition of the popular league that is all set to start at three venues across UAE — Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi from September 19.

Thakare, who made his First-Class debut directly in the Ranji Trophy final against Delhi at Indore, has been a consistent performer. He was part of the Indian contingent that lifted the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He has been picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and will have a chance to impress Indian skipper Virat Kohli. The lanky right-arm seamer is currently under quarantine in Bengaluru.

Thakare also did extremely well in the CK Nayudu Trophy picking 46 wickets. Left-arm seamer Dubey, who stands at 6 feet five inches, is lucky to have former India great left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan as his mentor in the Mumbai Indian set-up. Dubey was part of the India Under-23 side that played a one-day series against Bangladesh. He was among three Vidarbha players who participated in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Dubey’s seven wickets in semi-finals against Bengal and a haul of 35 wickets in previous season’s Col CK Nayudu Trophy, have impressed many.

Another Vidarbha U-23 youngster Bhute, who has been delivering with both ball and bat, has been drafted into the support staff of Kings XI Punjab. The bespectacled all-rounder was the top bowler in 2018-19 Cooch Behar Trophy with 55 victims that included six five-wicket hauls. All the selected players will have to go for a series of Covid-19 tests as has been the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) given by the BCCI to the franchisees.
