Hawker Zone fails to serve purpose, thanks to JMC’s lackadaisical approach

JABALPUR Municipal Corporation on one hand restricts street vendors to deck shops along main roads while on the other it is turning Nelson’s eye to shifting of these vendors to Hawker Zones. Lackadaisical approach of JMC is proving dear to traffic arrangements and also making Hawker Zones useless. Kachhpura Hawker Zone, which was developed by incurring huge public money to accommodate hundreds of street vendors, is lying deserted since years.
JMC has developed it to restrict vegetable vendors, fruits sellers, chat walas and motor mechanics from decking temporary shops along main roads. But, after developing the place, it forgot to shift street vendors to Hawker Zone. Market Department of JMC had allotted space to 252 vegetable vendors, 10 florists, 14 fruit vendors and allotted space for 50 shops for Chaupati. It had allotted space to vendors who were running their business by placing shops along the route from Ranital to Garha Ramlila Maidan.
Despite this, vendors still encroach the main road and hinder traffic movement. Local administration has a few months back allowed vegetable vendors to open shops at the Hawker Zone, but vendors are unable to operate shops from the place as JMC has dug up entire place in the name of erecting poles for shade. Hawker Zone is lying in bad condition since months and the civic body is paying no heed to renovate it so that vegetable and other market could be started from the place.
