Noted historian, researcher Shripad Chitale passes away

Shripad Keshav Chitale, noted historian and archaeological researcher, passed away on Saturday early morning due to brain haemorrhage. As soon as the news about his sad demise spread, condolences started pouring in. Chitale was 69.
 
He is survived by his mother Nirmala Chitale, wife Sharayu, son Shriram, daughter-in-law, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, brother Shrikant Chitale, and three sisters. Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and Bhaiyyaji Joshi, Sarkaryavah of RSS, visited Chitale’s residence in Kothi Road area in Mahal and paid their tributes to the departed soul. The last rites were performed at Gangabai ghat. Born on July 19, 1951 at Bilaspur in present-day Chhattisgarh, Shripad Chitale later earned BSc (Biology) and MA degrees.
 
He stood third in the order of merit in MA and had special interest in archaeology, ancient history, and culture. After years of academic engagement, he retired as Head of Botanical Collection Section of Post-Graduate Department of Botany, of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. A widely travelled man, he had visited several countries for studies. Chitale had to his credit 29 books, and two of his books namely ‘1500 Varshanpurvicha Vidarbha’ and ‘2500 Varshanpurvicha Vidarbha’ were in print.
 
He presented 125 research papers in National and International conferences. He served in various capacities with organisations including Mahamahopadhyay Dr V V Mirashi Pratishthan, Dr K L Daptary Trust, Mahamahopadhyay Balshastri Hardas and S G Chatte Pratishthan, Aarogya Bharati, RSS. He was All India Co-convener (Ancient Indian Arts) of Sanskar Bharati. Also, he was Honorary Editor of Agri History Foundation Trust publication.
