Dayal, Chetak clear SAI’s Coaches Education Programme

CITY’S noted badminton coaches Ajay Dayal and Chetak Khedikar along with Anand Apte cleared the Coaches Education Programme examination conducted by Sports Authority of India (SAI) through the National Testing Agency (NTA) recently. Dayal, current junior Indian team coach a former national badminton coach and ex-international player cleared the exam for the shuttle sport while Khedikar, who works with Centre Point School, cleared twin exams — one for badminton and the other for sports science. Khedikar had cleared (BWF) Badminton World Federation Level 1 certification course in 2016 and attended the prestigious Badminton World Federation coaches conference in Dubai during Dubai World Series 2016. Under the guidance of national coach Pullela Gopichand, Augus Dwi Santoso, presently Indonesia coach, who has been national coach for Malaysia and Korean teams and doubles specialist coach from Indonesia Namrih Suroto, about a thousand coaches from all over India took part in the online coaches education programme that was conducted during the lockdown period.
 
The coaching included sessions right from badminton discipline, process to develop technical skills for kids, use of footwork, execution of proper badminton strokes, physical sessions, multiple strokes practice session, double strokes, multi-shuttle sessions to preparation for matches. The online coaches education programme was held in two sessions — one for coaching skills and the other on sports science. On the basis of this online course, Sports Authority of India and National Testing Agency jointly took online examination for coaches and the results wee declared recently.
 
“Though I have already completed Olympic Gold Quest’s (OGQ) Coaches Excellence Programme (CEP) last year that is among highest qualifications in badminton coaching in the country, I also learned many new things during the programme. Apart from Gopi sir’s inputs on the skill part, I was much impressed by the sessions conducted by Santoso who spoke on length on mental aspect. He talked on how can we still focus on the game in these testing times,” said Dayal while talking to The Hitavada on Wednesday. Dayal runs Ajay Dayal Badminton Academy at three venues in the city.
 
“As I am attached to a school, I also wanted to learn the subject of sports science. The knowledge I gained will be imparted to students that will make them better player. I also take this opportunity to thank the Centre Point School management,” said Khedikar. Dayal and Khedikar extended their sincere thanks to Arun Lakhani, President, Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) and Mangesh Kashikar, Secretary Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA).
