‘Organ donation is social responsibility’

Amravati, “Organ donation is need of the hour as it can save life of patients who desperately need those. Organ donation should be considered as a social responsibility ,” said Dr Shyamsunder Nikam, District Civil Surgeon. Nikam was addressing an online organ donation awareness programme jointly organised by Health Centre and National Service Scheme Department of Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University (SGAU). The programme was organised on the instructions of Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of the University for organising various programmes on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day.
 
The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr Rajesh Jaipurkar was prominently present on the occasion. Addressing further, Dr Nikam said organ donation shoud be considered by every citizen as his /her social duty. Many people have problems with different organs, which can be solved if the organ donation is done on a large scale. Every citizen should make a commitment to give new life through organ donation through this global campaign, appealed Dr Nikam.
 
There is no age limit for organ donation, only the organs should be in good condition. The number of organ donors is low and the demand is high. On this occasion, he appealed to everyone to fulfill their duty by making a resolution to donate organs to the bank. Dr Rajesh Jaipurkar in his presidential address said that the medical field has undergone rapid changes in recent times and modern surgeries, new research methods of treatment, have revolutionised the medical field.
 
He also said that organ donation was as important as blood donation and more and more citizens should come forward and fulfill their social duty for organ donation. Dr Rajesh Burange, Director of NSS, conducted the programme and and delivered introductory remarks while Smita Thorat proposed a vote of thanks. The online event was attended by NSS Programme Officers, District Coordinators, Regional Coordinators and a large number of NSS volunteers. Rajesh Pidadi, Saurabh Gangurde, Sachin Balapure and the staff of NSS Division contributed for the success of the programme. Organ donation consent form was filled in this programme.
