CONDUCT TESTS_1 &nbs
THE chorus of Opposition parties against holding of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to IITs and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical institutions is broadly based on its habit of protesting any decision made by the Central Government. The Tests have been postponed twice -- first in April and then in July -- due to the surge in coronavirus pandemic in the country. Now that the Government has finalised September to hold the important examinations with full backing of the Supreme Court, some Opposition leaders are seeking a review of the decision. Both the examinations form a vital turning point in the career of huge number of students. Cancelling it will disturb the entire education schedule and will have a cascading effect on the next year. The Centre has been firm on holding the examinations and must not budge from this stand. The pandemic has changed ways of life and the examinations, too, will be conducted as per the new normal. Instead of making political issue out of a subject of larger societal interest, Opposition parties would do well to support the students.
