Bela blast: Accused switch off mobile phones, absconding

The contractor from Nasik and his supervisor went absconding and switched off their mobile phone after they were booked by Bela police for causing death of five workers due to their negligence. The workers were killed on Saturday after a gas tank exploded.
 
The incident took place in Manas Agro industries and infrastructure Ltd at Bela village in Umred tehsil of Nagpur district. A police official said that post-mortem was performed at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) on Sunday and bodies were handed-over to their relatives. Soon after the registration of the offence, Contractor Prashant Shinde and his Supervisor Sanjay Ingale of SP Engineering Company, Nasik have switched off their mobile phones, the official said. “We have sent a special team for arrest of the accused,” informed the official. Mangesh Prabhakar Naukarkar (21), Liladhar Wamanrao Shende (42), Vasudeo Ladi (30), Sachin Prakash Waghmare (24), Prafulla Pandurang Moon (25), all residents of Wadgaon village were killed in the blast. Sachin was working as welder while others were helpers, police said.
 
The company management has announced Rs 15 lakh compensation to families of the deceased. The workers were working for the contractor who was roped by the company for repairing work of the gas tank. The explosion occurred near biogas plant of the company when the workers were doing repairing work on the top of the tank at 2.15 pm. The tank suddenly exploded during the welding work. As a result, two workers were blown away and fell from a distance of 30 feet, while two fell inside the tank. Other company workers and villagers rushed to the spot after hearing the blast. A chaos-like situation prevailed in the company after the blast. Bodies of two workers who fell inside the tank were taken out with a rope.
