Strong sports policy to be implemented in State: Kedar

NATIONAL SPORTS DAY CELEBRATED AT DIV SPORTS COMPLEX
 
 
“MAHARASHTRA Government will be implementing a strong sports policy in the State so that sportspersons from the region could win medals not only at national level but also at international stage,” State Sports Minister Sunil Kedar said on Saturday. Kedar was speaking during the celebration of National Sports Day held at Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur. “Sportspersons of the State have brought laurels in many international events and to maintain and improve the standard a strong sports policy will be implemented in coming days,” Kedar asserted.
 
On the occasion, Kedar garlanded the portrait of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary which is celebrated as National Sports Day. In his address Kedar said a sports university with latest infrastructure will be started at Balewadi in Pune. “The university will help sportspersons perform much better at international level,” he added.
 
“At the university, sportspersons from entire Maharashtra will be trained. Similarly, coaches, technical officials, dieticians and others will also be trained and educated which will help Maharashtra reach greater heights at national and international level,” he further stated. On the occasion, Divisional Sports Department also started ‘Fit India Freedom India’ movement. During this movement, each citizen will have to walk, run, do cycling as per their convenience to keep themselves fit. Several meritorious sportspersons who won medals at State-level meets were also felicitated on the occasion. “I want to transform this stadium and make it of international standard and for that there would be no paucity of funds,” assured Kedar. On the occasion, NCC Headquarters Officer Colonel SS Som, Deputy Director, Sports and Youth Services Nagpur Avinash Pund, Pawan Meshram and others were also present.
 
KEDAR CONGRATULATES NATIONAL AWARD WINNERS SPORTS Minister Sunil Kedar congratulated nationals sports award winners who were decorated with Arjuna, Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand awards by President of India Ramnath Kovind on Saturday. Appreciating the achievements, Kedar sent letters congratulating to each of the award winners of the State. Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma was conferred with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. Badminton player Chirag Shetty, Satyaprakash Tiwari (para badminton), Nandal Bal (tennis) won the Arjuna awards while Vijay Munishwar, Ajay Sawant (horse riding), Rahul Aware (wrestling), Sarika Kale (kho-kho), Dattu Bhoknal (rowing), Madhurika Patankar (table tennis), Suyash Jadhav (para-swimming) won the Dronacharya awards. Padeep Gandhe (badminton), Trupti Murgunde (badminton) won Dhyan Chand awards while Keval Kakka won Tenzing Norgay award.
 
VIDARBHA HOCKEY ASSOCIATION A SIMPLE National Sports Day function was held at Vidarbha Hockey Association, Amravati Road. Corporator Kishor Jichkar was guest on the occasion. Sports lovers garlanded the portrait of Major Dhyan Chand. A tree plantation drive was held to mark the occasion. Shyam Sharma, Gurumurti Pillay, Kishor Goidani, Ravi Francis, Satish Fulsunge, Shanawaz Khan, Parvez from Amravati, Parag Bankar, Sailesh, Vivek Siriah, Dr. Yagya Singh Thakur, Sanjay Lokhande and others were also present.

DHANWATE NATIONAL COLLEGE DHANWATE National College celebrated hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary by holding a tree plantation drive. The tree plantation drive was held at college’s Vasant Nagar ground. Dr Surendra Jichkar, Principal of the college planted tree saplings at the ground. On the occasion Dr Devendra Wankhede, Dr Subhash Dadhe, Prof Jayant Jichkar, Vinod Puri and others were present.
 
MAHATMA GANDHI ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL, HINGNA MAHATMA Gandhi English Medium School, Hingna celebrated National Sports Day online. Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Director, Physical Education and Sports, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University was chief guest on the occasion. Dharmendra Parshivnikar, Head Master, presided over. In his address which was held through video conferencing, Dr Suryawanshi spoke on minute details about sports. He asked players to work hard to achieve success. He also congratulated meritorious sportspersons of the school. The function was conducted by School PET Ramchandra Wani and Supervisor Deepali Kothe.

CP & Berar College ON THE occasion of National Sports Day, CP & Berar College organised a One Day National Webinar on “Resumption of Sports Activities – Post COVID-19”.
 
The chief guest for the webinar was Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Director, Department of Physical Education and Sports RTMNU. CP Singh, senior handball coach of Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports, Patiala, Punjab was the resource person. Dr Milind Barhate, Principal, CP & Berar College presided over. Dr JK Mahajan, Vice–Principal was also present during the webinar. In his address Dr Suryawanshi said, “Today we are struggling with COVID–19 but we can fight with this decease.”

Dr Suryawanshi insisted participants to do regular yoga and meditation to stay fit. In the key note address from Singh, Standard Operation Procedure for players issued by Sports Authority of India was discussed. Singh briefly explained SOP under following heads: Categorisation of Sports, Protocol before Training, Training Specific Instructions, Safe Use of Equipment and Safety Protocol for Prevention of Spread of COVID-19. Dr Milind Barhate urged players to strictly follow guidelines provided in SOP and take care of themselves and stay fit. A large number of players, coaches, college directors of physical education and sports, physical education teachers took active participation in the webinar. Dr Nishant Tipte, HoD Physical Education and Sports co-ordinated the webinar. Dr Vinod Dongarwar proposed a vote of thanks.
