He took the entrance again and cracked the exam with 733rd rank this time. “It was my seventh attempt but I am happy that my rank improved this time. It is difficult to say that which service I am going to get,” said Nikhil to The Hitavada. Determination and hard work were his simple mantra, he said, adding he never gave up hope. Despite a hectic work schedule which he enjoyed a lot, Nikhil took out time to prepare for achieving his ultimate goal to score better rank in the examination.

“I took a year-long leave from my office for preparation which helped me a lot in last 2-3 months when I sacrificed every thing for this examination,” he added. Talking about his family, Nikhil said his father Sudhakar Dubey is a retired Assistant Commissioner in Fisheries Department while his mother is a homemaker. Nikhil’s elder sister Neha is a Civil Engineer. Nikhil’s two cousins who are serving Indian Police Service (IPS) officers inspired him to achieve the goal. Nikhil did his SSC from Centre Point School, Katol Road and Class 12 from Shivaji Science College. He completed his Engineering from Ranchi and then MBA from Delhi.

While talking about Pre-IAS Training Centre (PITC), Nagpur, He said, “The training centre helped me to groom. The educational atmosphere, library and the students are the best part of it.” For civil services aspirants from Nagpur, Nikhil advised that candidates should prefer Delhi and Pune for preparation of UPSC instead of Nagpur. He has a mantra for all civil services aspirants also: never stop chasing your dream no matter how difficult it is to get there. “Keep trying,” he said.
