The relaxation in the criteria will be for one year only, said Habib Khan, Chairman of Council of Architecture

In a good news for students, the criteria to get admission to Under Graduate course of Architecture has been eased. Now, the aspirants need to be 12th pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) subjects. Even those pursuing three-year diploma become eligible if they score even 35% with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

Till now, for B Arch course, the students were supposed to score minimum 50% aggregate marks in their qualifying examination along with valid National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA) scores. Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has made announcement wherein the change in the criteria was the focal point. Habib Khan, Chairman of Council of Architecture, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, confirmed the development.

He said, “We had recommended to lower down the criteria and accordingly submitted the same to the Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD). It gave the approval.” There will be no relaxation as far as the scores and appearance in NATA and Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) are concerned. Habib Khan elaborated, “This change will be in effect for this year only considering the academic situation arose because of coronavirus pandemic. The relaxation is introduced to help the students who have faced a crisis in their academics due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At some places examination could not be conducted. Many students faced several hardships. Considering all these, we at the council’s meeting unanimously decided to recommend the change in eligibility criteria.” Habib Khan also pointed out, “From next year onwards, our original criteria will continue. CoA never wants to compromise with the quality.” CoA will be conducting NATA on August 29 (first examination). Currently, the application form for both first and second attempt is available till August 12 and candidates who are already registered can also correct their details during this period. There is no clarity regarding the date of NATA 2020.
