DRUG trafficker Javed alias Baccha Khan, who was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, died under mysterious circumstances in Central Jail on Wednesday. Owing allegiance to dreaded gangster Feroz alias Abu Khan, Javed alias Baccha Ataullah Khan (36) was arrested along with his close aide Arshad Ahmed by Anti-Narcotic Cell of the Crime Branch from Azad Nagar, Tajbagh, last year.

Cops had seized 59 gramme mephedrone powder valued at Rs 1.77 lakh from Javed and Arshad. Cops had also seized cellphones from their possession. After the arrest of Feroz Khan alias Abu, who was considered as one of the main suppliers of mephedrone powder, Javed was allegedly managing the network of drugs distribution in the city.

In December last year, police had also trapped two of his accomplices Amir Khan and Mohd Waqar from Ganeshpeth area. Undertrial Javed allegedly had a dispute with some inmates at ‘Chhoti Gol’ barrack in the jail. Jail authorities maintained that Javed’s health started deteriorating and was rushed to Government Medical College & Hospital where he breathed his last. After recording the statement of Jail Guard Sadanand Thokas, Dhantoli Police registered a case under Section 174 of Code of Criminal Procedure. Further investigations are underway.
