Second staffer of Forest Deptt dies of COVID-19

A 50-year-old Forest Guard posted at Seminary Hills Range of Forest Department and a resident of Kamptee, who had tested COVID-19 positive on July 23, died at Mayo Hospital on Thursday. He was the second employee of the department to have died due to novel coronavirus infection. Previously, one Accountant at Van Bhavan had died after testing COVID-19 positive on July 13. Vijay Gangawane, Range Forest Officer, Seminary Hills, told ‘The Hitavada’ that the Forest Guard was under treatment at Mayo Hospital after testing COVID-19 positive. Children’s Park and Japanese Garden were closed since then, while the other employees coming in his contact were quarantined. In earlier case, the Accountant working with Publicity Wing of the department experienced symptoms of COVID-19 on July 12 and died the next day.
 
His colleague, a Clerk in the Budget Department and neighbour, used to take him to the hospital on his motorbike. The Clerk also tested positive after some days. At present, he, too, is undergoing treatment. A team of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) visited the department and sanitised the whole office. The colleagues of the Clerk were also tested and quarantined. Meanwhile, a woman employee in store room of Forest Deartment at Van Bhavan also was found COVID-19 positive, and is under treatment.
