The medicos working in Covid-19 wards in hospitals feel now Nagpur is observing spurt like what Mumbai experienced a few weeks ago. According to doctors, Nagpur may have to face this situation at least for next two months. Nagpur district is witnessing the spurt in coronavirus positive cases. On Thursday, the district registered 539 coronavirus positive cases. Number of deaths Nagpur district registered is the highest one till now in one single day -- 24. While the positive cases mounted to 6,148 and deaths to 166. With 152 coronavirus positive recovered, the cumulative number of people discharged reached 3,731.
 
Actually 25 people died in Nagpur of coronavirus, of those one was the resident out of Nagpur while 4 persons resided in Nagpur rural. Out of total positive, 288 are from city while 251 are the residents of Nagpur rural which is provided by Information and Publicity unit. Most of these results are the outcome of RT PCR. Meanwhile, the figure released by Nagpur Municipal Corporation says total coronavirus positive in Nagpur are 927. The figure surprised everybody but according to experts, the rise in figure is because of rise in testing centres in city where antigen test is being conducted. Tukaram Mundhe, Municipal Commissioner took initiative to start 21 Covid-19 testing centres in city where antigen test is being conducted.
 
The antigen test gives faster results and people are queuing up to get themselves examined. This is resulting in more number of people testing positive for coronavirus. The samples came positive were examined at virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (102), Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) (125), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (68), molecular diagnostic laboratory of National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) (75), Centre for Zoonosis, Nagpur Veterinary College affiliated to Maharashtra Animal Fisheries Sciences University (MAFSU) (25), private laboratories (58).

Mayor quarantines himself Mayor Sandip Joshi has quarantined himself as he came in close contact with a person whose family member came positive for COVID-19. In his tweet Sandip Joshi said, “Yesterday I have come in close contact with a person whose family member tested positive for COVID-19. Though I am fine but doctors recommended me to put myself under home quarantine as a precautionary measure.” Joshi while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ said, “We being public figure have to be more careful, not for ourselves but for the public. Several people stand close to us and we can’t say no to them. Anybody among them has co-morbidity then he or she would be at risk. With this view I consulted doctors who advised me to get home quarantined.”
 
Dr Joshi of AIIMS, 46 medicos posted at IGGMCH District Disaster Management Authority headed by Collector Ravindra Thakare through a special order posted 46 doctors at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH). As per the order now, Dr P P Joshi, Head of Department of Medicine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will head the same department at IGGMCH. Dr Joshi has recently been appointed as Nodal Clinical Expert to act as resource person for Maharashtra on Clinical Management of Covid 19. Medicos from Government Ayurved College, Public Health department, CGHS have been shifted to IGGMCH to work at Covid 19 wards at IGGMCH. The IGGMCH had placed a request to District administration to provide backup of medicos, nurses, technicians.
