TWO city cops, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday. Following their demise, the death toll from coronavirus in Maharashtra Police force has reached 108. A resident of Jaitala, the ASI was attached to Police Headquarters. He was on medical leave.

On Tuesday, he complained of chest pain. As his condition started deteriorating, his daughter reportedly made several calls to some police and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officers for help. However, none answered her calls. She and other family members somehow managed to take him to a leading private hospital. As beds were allegedly non-available there, he was shifted to Government Medical College & Hospital. He was tested COVID-19 positive and breathed his last during treatment.

Similarly, the 54-year-old Head Constable (HC), attached to Dhantoli Police Station, was also tested coronavirus positive. A resident of Jaripatka, the HC was admitted to Mayo Hospital where he succumbed to the infection. Meanwhile, sources informed that three senior police inspectors, three-four constables and their family members have also tested COVID-19 positive. One of the three senior inspectors was attached to the Crime Branch, added the sources.
