Congress declared names of 15 Assembly by-election candidates on Friday. Congress National President Sonia Gandhi approved the names of by-election candidates. Now, 12 more by-election candidates are to be named by the Congress.
Ravindra Singh Tomar has been fielded from Dimani Assembly constituency followed by Satyaprakash Shekarwar (Ambah-SC), Mevaram Jatav (Gohad-SC), Sunil Sharma (Gwalior), Suresh Raje (Dabra -SC), Phul Singh Baraiya (Bhander-SC), Pragilal Jatav (Karera-SC), Kanaiya Lal Agrawal (Bamori), Asha Dohre (Ashok Nagar-SC), Vishwanath Singh Kunjam (Anuppur-ST), Madanlal Chaouhdary Ahirwar (Sanchi-SC), Vipin Wankhede (Agar-SC), Rajveer Singh Baghel (Hatpipaliya), Ram Kishan Patel (Nepa Nagar-ST), Premchand Guddu (Sanwer-SC).
Premchand Guddu deserted BJP days after Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the ruling party. After couple of days of leaving the BJP, he joined the Congress and announced to contest Assembly by election from Sanwer seat of Indore. This seat was earlier represented by Minister Tulsiram Silawat before resigning from the Congress. Vipin Wankhede is NSUI President.
Satyaprakash Shekarwar is an ex-MLA, while Kanaiya Lal Agrawal is a former minister.
The Congress had conducted survey through a private agency to know names of prospective by election candidates and to gauge out their influence in their respective regions. Congress also conducted internal survey to get the names of winnable candidates. Notably, 20 Assembly seats are vacant and by elections are to be held in coming time to fill them. As many as 19 Congress MLAs from Jyotiraditya Scincia camp resigned from the Congress following which Kamal Nath Government collapsed in the State. Later, some more Congress MLAs resigned to join the BJP. Out of 27 Assembly seats, two seats fell vacant following demise of sitting MLAs. BSP was the first to release the list of Assembly by election candidates in the State. BJP is all set to give by election tickets to those who resigned from the Congress and join them.
