CG JEE result lowest in 5

Around 12 per cent registered candidates called off from the exam at last moment
In a major shift, the number of candidates who have managed to score ranks under 1,50,000 in JEE-Mains 2020 and become eligible to appear in JEE Advanced Exam has come down and said to be lowest in last five years. Only 310 students across Chhattisgarh scored ranks under 1.5 lakh in JEE-Mains 2020 to register in JEE Advanced for getting the much-coveted opportunity to study in prestigious Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) that is scheduled to take place on September 27. In 2019, around 510 students managed to score ranks under 1.5 lakhs in JEE-Mains to appear in JEE Advanced 2019. Of them 434 students appeared in the examination and of them, 350 aspirants have cleared the cut-off to get admissions in IITs.

But this year, owing to COVID-19 pandemic, continuous delay of exams and lots of dilemma, majority of students could not perform well in the examination and most of them scored above 2 lakh ranks in the examination. Even around 12 pe rcent registered candidates of JEE Mains preferred to appear in exam next year and called off from the exam at last moment.

Dr P K Sen, former faculty of IIT, Dhanbad said that this year, apart from fear of COVID-19, continuous postponement of exams have also played a vital role in lowering the confidence of many students and as a result of it, many of them failed to do well in this prestigious exam. On the other hand, students from South India did not affect much from it and appeared in the exam with full confidence. Because of it, all top ranks were captured by students of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.

In spite of this dip in successful candidates, the IITs are hopeful of seeing many students in undergraduate programs of engineering from Bhilai, Raipur and other urban parts of the Chhattisgarh. “In 2018, only 403 students appeared in JEE Advanced from Chhattisgarh. But, 259 students succeeded to clear the exam and got admission in different IITs. So, this time too, many students will be able to clear JEE Advanced” stated Jagdish Tulsiyani, Well Known Technical Educationist and faculty expert of JEE Advanced.

Last year in JEE Mains, 5 students managed to score above 99 percentile marks in the examination, but this time, only one Shreya Agrawal succeeded to score above 90 percentile marks in the examination. Rajat Agrawal, IITian and Guest faculty in online IIT coaching stated that, both students as well as faculties should have to learn exam management from Hyderabad. This year 25 out of top 50 students in the exam are from this hi-tech city. The institutes of Hyderabad are teaching special techniques to solve maximum questions in stipulated time period. It will help students of Chhattisgarh to attempt more questions and score better ranks in JEE Mains 2021, he added.
