Forest guards of Pench Tiger Reserve succeeded in apprehending a poacher involved in laying livewire traps for poaching of wild boar at Vijaypani Beat Compartment Number PF367 between Amajhari and Pachdhar areas, on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Holiya Sirsam (45), son of Kesri Sirsam, a resident of Amajhiri village in Kurai, Seoni district.

 

Field Director of Pench Tiger Reserve Vikram Singh Parihar informed that acting on a tip-off, a team of Forest Department started a search in buffer area of Khawasa Circle. Continuing a thorough search, forest guards found live electricity wire laid as trap for poaching of wild animals. Team found that unidentified person deliberately laid the electric trap for poaching of wild animals in Vijaypani Beat Compartment Number PF367 at a farm falling under buffer area of tiger reserve.

 

In further investigation, farm owner was detained for inquiry. In the interrogation, the accused broke out and confessed the laying of GI wire and connecting with high-tension line for poaching of wild boar. On his identification, forest team found the carcass of wild boar which was electrocuted with live wire. Forest Department registered a case against the accused under sections 9, 39 and 51 of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and presented the accused before the court.
