Raipur Police on Saturday claimed to have cracked Shaheed Smarak Complex burglary within 12 hours by arresting three thieves along with recovery of cash worth Rs 55.10 lakh. “Within 12 hours of the burglary, Raipur Police cracked the case and arrested three thieves along with recovery of Rs 55.10,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Yadav. The arrested burglars were identified as Ramesh Mahanand (23), Badal alias Gora Jagat (20), both residents of Valmiki Nagar under Kabir Nagar police station limits, and Gopal Bagh (20), of Kota under Saraswati Nagar police station, said SSP Yadav.
 
The arrested thieves have spent jail term in connection with theft, burglary and snatching, added the SSP. From the possession of arrested burglars, police have recovered Rs 55.10 lakh cash, a two-wheeler, four mobile handsets, one laptop, said SSP, adding that investigation is underway to collect details about the remaining amount. Detailing about the burglary, SSP Yadav said on intervening night of September 10 and September 11, thieves broke into Hariom Agency and Natraj Enterprises located at Shaheed Smarak Complex under Moudhapara police station and decamped with Rs 67.20 lakh. Taking swift action on the complaint of the victim businessman Puneet Kaabra, four separate teams were constituted to probe the case.
 
While undertaking Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) and scanning CCTV cameras installed in the area, the probing teams received an important tip-off following which Ramesh Mahanand was rounded-up. “On being subjected to interrogation, Mahanand admitted of committing burglary along with Badal and Gopal following which the duo was arrested. During interrogation, the accused trio admitted of equally distributing the stolen money among them. Based on information collected from the trio, police have recovered Rs 55.10 lakh and investigation is underway to find out the remaining amount,” SSP Yadav informed.
 
Based on the criminal record of arrested burglars, the city police have started the process to designate them as history-sheeters, added SSP Yadav. Impressed by swift disposal of the case, Raipur Range Inspector General of Police (IG) Dr Anand Chhabra has announced cash reward of Rs 30000 for the probing team and Rs 20000 was announced by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Yadav, informed police sources.
