POLICE officials and personnel at most police stations in the district are overburdened with works as over 150 including Station House Officers (SHOs) along with officials and personnel have been detected positive for COVID-19, leading to staff crunch. However about 50 police officials and personnel have recuperated and they have joined duty. The staff crunch is still persisting at most police stations over 100 police officials and personnel are quarantined or undergoing treatment at hospitals.
 
As per senior police officials in the present scenario of spread of coronavirus infection there is staff crunch at police stations in the district but the in-charge officials could opt for forwarding requisition for crime control and even for routine works as when required. According to information, the police officials and personnel from most police stations in the district are overburdened with works as over nine to twelve police officials along with personnel have been tested positive for COVID-19 at several police stations. At most police stations in the district the police officials and personnel are working for ten to twelve hours in two shifts to meet out staff crunch.
 
Along with crime control and routine the work at police stations includes producing arrestee in the court, inquest preparation in cases of unnatural deaths, legal action in accidents matter, criminal assault cases etc. As per information over 100 police officials and personnel from various police stations in the district are quarantined or undergoing treatment and it led to staff crunch at most police station.
 
The sources said that in the course of routine duty the SHOs from as many as four police stations have been tested positive for the pandemic and in-charge police officials are looking after all works. Rohit Kumar Jha, ASP (City) informed that the police officials and personnel at the police stations are under work pressure due to considerable COVID cases reported from the department but the matter is being dealt at subdivision level to meet out staff crisis. The senior police officials are considering requisition for additional staffers from reserve police force. As per reports about 150 police officials and personnel were affected with the pandemic so far and out of it about 50 have recovered and they have already joined duty. He appealed the police officials and personnel for ensuring strict compliance of all directives issued by the district administration to check spread of the pandemic.
