Good news: Doubling rate of COVID-19 improves from 15 days to 21 days

There is some good news as far as COVID-19 is concerned. The doubling gap of number of cases has widened to 21 days, from previous 15 days. As far as doubling rate is concerned, it is the number of days taken to register doubling in number of cases reported. According to Jalaj Sharma, Additional Municipal Commissioner, data of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Health Department showed that the doubling rate/gap of COVID-19 patients in Nagpur city had widened from 15 days to 21 days. Earlier, the number of cases in city used to double in 15 days. Now, the number of doubling after a gap of 21 days. The doubling rate of COVID-19 cases was 44 days in the month of June.
 
However, with more and more cases coming to fore after re-opening of various activities and people thronging the markets and public places, the doubling rate came down to 15 days in July and August. There has been an improvement in the doubling rate especially after July 27, Sharma said. Regarding the increase in number of new cases and new deaths, Sharma said that NMC’s Health Department had started 50 COVID Testing Centres in the city in the past 20 days. Besides, NMC’s Rapid Response Team was engaged in tracing the high-risk contacts of persons testing positive for COVID-19.
 
NMC issued a press release on Wednesday evening quoting Manisha Khatri, an IAS officer roped in to manage the situation, as saying that the COVID-19 patients were hiding their information. Many people are not disclosing information including phone number, home address, family members having co-morbidities like blood pressure and diabetes etc. As a result, it becomes difficult for the authorities concerned to ensure timely treatment for such patients. Khatri appealed to the people to get themselves tested and get timely treatment.
