Nagpur district reports 2,052 new COVID-19 cases, 51 new deaths

Though the doubling rate has improved in the city, the overall situation in Nagpur district (including urban and rural areas) continued to be disturbing in numbers. A total of 2,052 new cases and 51 new deaths, including nine each of persons from out of Nagpur district, were registered on Wednesday. As per the district administration’s data, as many as 2,052 new cases were reported in Nagpur district on Wednesday. These included nine patients from outside Nagpur district, 417 from rural parts of the district, and 1,626 from Nagpur city alone. Also, Wednesday brought the news of 60 new deaths in district, including nine of patients from outside the district, 14 from rural areas of district, and 37 from Nagpur city. Thus, the total number of deaths of persons from Nagpur district alone, was 51.
 
With the numbers added on Wednesday, the cumulative total of COVID-19 patients in the district rose to 57,482 including 348 from outside district, 11,546 from rural areas of district, and 45,588 from Nagpur city alone. Similarly, the cumulative count of COVID-19 deaths rose to 1,815 including 166 from outside district, 291 from rural areas, and 1,358 from Nagpur city. As far as recoveries are concerned, 1,594 patients recovered on Wedneday. Of these, 163 were from rural areas of Nagpur district, and 1,431 from Nagpur city. Cumulatively, 43,927 patients have recovered so far including 8,140 from rural areas and 35,787 from the city. As per the data with district administration, as many as 11,740 patients were ‘active’ in district including 4,665 from rural areas, 7,075 from Nagpur city.
 
The overall figure of ‘active patients’ included 6,143 in home isolation. The number of recoveries also included the patients who were in home isolation and recovered. With the latest recoveries reported on Wednesday, the recovery rate of Nagpur district has improved further to 76.42%.

Gadkari tests COVID-19 positive Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and MSMEs, has tested positive for COVID-19. He disclosed this on Wednesday night through a tweet. “Yesterday, I was feeling weak and consulted my Doctor. During the course of my check up, I have been tested COVID-19 positive. I am at present doing well with the blessings and good wishes of all. I have isolated myself,” Gadkari tweeted. He also urged the people who had come in contact with him to ‘be careful and follow the protocol’. In response to his tweet, ‘Bharat Ratna’ Lata Mangeshkar tweeted, “Nitin ji, you are a strong and a positive person and you will come out this safely.” She also extended her prayers and good wishes for his speedy and complete recovery. A host of top-ranking politicians including Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister; Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; Dharmendra Pradhan, Vasundhara Raje, Tejasvi Surya, Ravi Kishan and others tweeted and wished Gadkari a speedy recovery.
