The condition of the couple and kids is stated to be stable
A drunkard man reportedly attempted suicide by consuming poisonous substance and allegedly administered the substance to his wife as well as three children by stating it as medicine for Coronavirus in the outskirts of Raipur. The horrific incident took place at village Kesla under Kharora police station limits on Friday.
 
According to police sources, a man identified as Premnarayan Dewangan attempted suicide by consuming poisonous substance and allegedly administered the substance to his wife Kamini Dewangan and children Priya (11), Gayatri (9) and Tuleshwar (7). Prima-facie investigation hints that phosphorus was used as a poison, but it is yet to be ascertained. The couple and children were undergoing treatment at two separate hospitals in Kharora, where their condition was stated to be stable.
 
Premnarayan was a habitual drunkard and had borrowed money from many people for liquor. Even he sold out his property. The situation landed Premnarayan in a financial crunch. Distressed by his present condition, he consumed phosphorous and also made his family drink it in an attempt to commit suicide. At around 9 am on Friday, one Saraswati Dewangan, residing nearby witnessed Premnarayan, Damini and children in an unconscious state. The news spread like a fire, after which, a team of police personnel reached the spot and rushed them to a nearby hospital. Currently, all of them are under observation of doctors’ teams, added police sources.
 
“Soon after being informed about the incident, police rushed to the spot and took all of them to nearby hospitals. In a preliminary police investigation, it was leant that Premnarayan is a habitual drinker and had borrowed money from several people for consuming alcohol. Moreover, he frequently had altercation with his wife,” said Kharora Station House Officer Nitesh Thakur.
 
Police investigators are yet to record the statement of Dewangan, his wife and children as they were under 48-hours observation, said SHO Thakur, adding that more clarity in the case will be achieved after recording of the statements. Further action in the case will be moved on the basis of investigation findings, added SHO Thakur.
