Forest Department has sent five men to jail on charges of hunting two wild Jackals at Bitkula forest range under Bilaspur Forest Division. According to the reports, accused men Magati, Raju, Mahtab and Manish were arrested and sent to jail in wildlife hunting case. All the accused are residents of village Matiyari near Seepat. Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest-Wildlife Arun Pandey informed that on the night of September 17, Bilaspur Divisional Forest Officer Kumar Nishant received an intelligence report that some people are trying to hunt wildlife at Bitkula forest range. Immediately, after receiving the tip-off, the DFO guided a team led by Assistant Divisional Forest officer Namit Tiwari of Sonthi Forest Range to the spot. The team caught the accused red-handed and recovered a muzzle gun, powder keg, ball bearings and two motorbikes.
 
An offence under Section Wildlife Protection Act 1972 was registered before sending them to jail. It is to be noted that on the direction of Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, the Department is running a drive to curb the hunting/poaching in the forested areas.
