COVID-19 recoveries cross 50,000 mark, rate improves to above 80%

Nagpur district registers 49 deaths
 
District’s death rate on Sunday stood at 2.65%, which was higher than the national average death rate of 1.61%
 
 
There is a reason for people of Nagpur district to smile. COVID-19 recoveries crossed 50,000 mark on Sunday after 1,610 persons became corona-free. The recovery rate is continuously improving. On Sunday, it, too, crossed 80 per cent mark. However, death rate continues to be a cause of concern. On Sunday, the cumulative number of patients recovered stood at 51,556. Of these, 42,298 recoveries are registered in Nagpur city and 9,258 in rural areas.
 
The total number of recoveries also includes the patients who recovered in home isolation. The overall recovery increased to 80.86 per cent, which was well above the national average recovery rate of 79.68 per cent as on Sunday. In fact, the doubling rate also improved to 21.3 days. It was 15 days in past couple of months. Sunday saw as many as 54 patients breathing their last due to COVID-19. Of these, 49 were from the district including 40 from Nagpur city alone and nine from rural areas. Whereas, five others were non-residents of Nagpur district, but had succumbed to the disease in Nagpur. With these deaths, the death rate stood at 2.65 per cent as on Sunday.
 
It was higher than the national average of 1.61 per cent. This remains a cause of concern. The number of new COVID-19 positive cases registered on Sunday was 1,221, excluding five from outside the district. Of the total positive cases registered on Sunday, 993 were from Nagpur city and 228 were from rural areas. With these, the cumulative number of positive cases reached 63,391.
 
With the new patients testing positive on Sunday, the cumulative number of positive cases in Nagpur city rose to 50,675. Though the number of positive cases registered on Sunday was lesser than those recorded in the past some days, it was higher as compared to the number of tests conducted. On Sunday, only 5,732 samples were tested.
