SHIVA Iyer was just too good in the second edition of Prabhakarrao Karkar Memorial Rapid Chess Tournament that concluded late on Sunday night. The tourney was conducted by Nagpur District Chess Association in a joint venture with Lions Club Nagpur through the platform of lichess.org. Iyer was the only player to win all his eight rounds while as many as six players were tied with six points each to take 2-7 spots. In the two-day event, playing with white pieces on top board in the final round, Iyer got better of Shraddha Bajaj.
 
On his way to glory, Iyer defeated Himanshu Gupta, Priyanshu Patil, Akshay Patil, Ramteke Sumedh, Jay Sawalakhe, Arush Chitre, Ameya Godbole and Shraddha. Youngster Sawalakhe was overnight joint leader with full four points but lost his way on Sunday. He could gather only 1.5 points from four games to finish at 8th place with 5.5 points. Aditya Bodkhe, who recorded a win over Suhan Deshpande in the final round, took the second spot with tie-break score of 27.5.
 
Deshpande finished third with tie-break score of 26.5. The total prize money of Rs 5000 was sponsored by Dhananjay Karkar in the 50-player tournament. Players of Nagpur district only were eligible to participate. User-ID of lichess.org was mandatory for every participant. The tournament was held online under the supervision of FA Umesh Panbude and IA Pravin Pantawane.
