Oxford Covishield Vaccine trials at GMCH from today

1,600 healthy persons of different age groups have been chosen for the trials. They will be administered the first dose of 0.5 ml today, 2nd on 29th day, third on 50th and fourth on 90th day
 
 
Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) is serving Covid-19 and non-coronavirus patients without any break and hasn't even stopped its research for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. Now it has created a ray of hope for the Nagpurians as it will be conducting prestigious Oxford Covishield Vaccine testing. This testing has given promising results all over the world. Serum Institute of India is monitoring the testing at 17 centres in the country.
 
Nagpur GMCH is one of those. Dr Sushant Meshram, Principal Investigator told ‘The Hitavada’, “The vaccine is being prepared so that it will have strong immune power that would be injected into human body. For the testing 1,600 healthy persons of different age groups have been chosen. Every centre will have 50 to 100 such volunteers. They will be given the first dose of 0.5 ml. Then they will be obesrved to check whether they have any side effects. If everything is ok then second dose to be administered on 29th day. Third will be given on 57th and fourth on 90th day.”
 
During this period every parameters of volunteers will be checked and monitored. Total process will take eight months to complete. Apart from these technicalities there are other formalities that are needed to be completed. The vaccine will enter market after 10 to 12 months. Expressing happiness over this development, Dr Sajal Mitra, Dean said, “There is a masking, sanitizing and now vaccine for which everyone is waiting. GMCH is continuously performing research on treatment of Covid-19 patients. Our all department heads despite their workload hasn’t stopped doing research.
 
We have submitted 40 research papers till now. Apart from plasma now this vaccine testing will give new direction to this treatment part.” The team that would be working with Dr Meshram is Dr Sajal Mitra, Dr Avinash Gawande, Medical Superintendent, Dr Shilpa Gupta, Assistant Professor, Physiology; Dr Sushant Muley, Dr Ravi Yadav and Dr Elina Alexander.
