City’s teaching and non teaching staff welcomed decision of State Government to make 100% attendance mandatory in colleges. With University examinations beginning on October 1, the Department of Higher and Technical Education has made 100% attendance of teachers and students mandatory. Dr Feroz Haidry, Professor at Department of Urdu at Morris College said, “This is a proper step by Government at right time. Now, with following all rules everybody should be asked to join colleges.

How far the idea of work from home would work?” Government had restricted the movement in all institutions against the backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the institutions were working with limited staff till now as Covid-19 rules were to be followed. Most of things were being operated online. Kunal Moitra, Public Relations Officer with Jhulelal Institute of Technology pointed out, “I daily come across several students who are fed up of all these on-line things.

They want to come out of it. I am involved in official work and constantly doing it since long attending institution. Earlier, I too, worked from home but that had created an attitude of unwillingness to do actual work. Now, I am feeling better.” Aishwarya Verma, a student of MA English at Hislop College is at home since the pandemic. But now she wants to get rid of this situation.

“I am teaching my younger ones on-line. But, the real teaching is done offline. I want to attend college, meet my teachers, take classes from them, discuss topics with my colleagues.” Dr Vivek Nanoti, Principal of Priyadarshini Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET) also welcomed Government’s decision. He pointed out, “Since people have become habitual of working from home, they are finding it difficult to join colleges but colleges can’t down their shutters if pandemic continues. Somewhere it has to stop and work must go on.”
