Need to increase licensed football coaches in Nagpur: Shivalkar

INDIAN Friends Football Cub (IFFC) recently organised a webinar ‘Let’s talk Football — Coaches Training Programme. Former India striker and Air India, Churchill Brothers, Mumbai FC and Head Coach of Mahrashrtra team at Khelo India Youth Games Paresh Shivalkar was the guest speaker on the occasion. Shivalkar, who is Director, Reliance Youth Sports Foundation (Maharashtra) guided coaches of Nagpur city through the online session. Shivalkar said there is a need to increase licensed coaches in Nagpur which will help in bringing out a better footballer.
 
“Well trained and experienced coaches will definitely improve the performance of a team. Focus should be on obtaining B and C licence coaches,” he stressed. The webinar was also attended by Stanley Gregory, National Referee; Savio Andrew PET, St John’s School; Annie Paul, Kunal Meshram, Papan Pramanik among others. Paresh Shivalkar emphasised on enhancing coaching skills. “Coaches need to do session planning for kids in the age group of 14, 16 and 18 years,” he said. “Different kind of strategies should be used for each age category,” he added. Shivalkar asked coaches to focus mainly on giving training to budding players on passing and receiving the ball, technical and tactical strategy for the age group of 16 years. He said that a player should be developed technically and tactically.
 
“Every players should be asked to do warm-up before practice session as well as before any match to avoid injuries,” he opined. Shivalkar, who is AIFF D License and AFC C license holder and has also done AFC B License FIFA Youth Coaching Course, also talked about controlling the players’ emotions during the match and make them a down to earth player since the start of their career. Ankush Bhadange, Director, Indian Friends Football Club was the co-ordinator of the webinar. Shivalkar played for Air India in 2003-2005 season and then joined Churchill Brothers for a two-year term. In 2006-07 season he again joined Air India and then moved to Mahindra United on a three-year term. Then he played for Pune (2012) and Mumbai Tigers (2013-2013) and then for Mumbai FC. He became Maharashtra selector for Khelo India Youth Games in 2019. He also served as the assistant coach of Mahrashtra team in Santosh Trophy in 2019. Shivalkar was selector of Maharashtra Santosh Trophy team early this year.
