IN A bizarre act of law enforcers in the Second Capital, Jaripatka Police on Wednesday paraded six suspects, including five juvenile delinquents, in semi-nude condition after taking them into custody for looting cash from a beer bar on Tuesday night. Cops tied the suspects together with a rope and made them walk in innerwear. Cops also continued beating them with sticks even as two police vehicles followed them. Shopkeepers, passers-by and some youngsters recorded the scenes in their cellphones and made the videos viral on social media.

Though some people were happy that the anti-socials mostly involved in cases of extortion in the area were being taken by cops, social media users mocked and trolled Nagpur Police. Five boys in conflict with the law and a waiter had looted Rs 7,000 cash from Royal Bar & Restaurant in old Jaripatka area on Tuesday night.

Carrying swords, they threatened bar owner Sanjay Patil (53) and took away money from the cash counter. Following a complaint lodged by Patil’s son Shreyas (24), a resident of Gyaneshwar Society, Mankapur, Jaripatka Police registered an offence under Sections 392, 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 4 +25 of the Arms Act against the anti-socials. Within three hours of the incident, a team of Jaripatka Police comprising Senior Inspector Khushal Tijare, Sub-Inspector Navnath Deokate, Assistant Sub-Inspector Wahab Desai and others under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikram Sali and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Jaripatka Division) Parshuram Karyakarte nabbed the accused persons.

On Wednesday, cops forced the accused to remove their shirts, banyans, and trousers. They then tied them together and paraded them on streets. A senior officer told ‘The Hitavada’ that the police had no intention of giving any message to the public by parading the juvenile delinquents in semi-nude condition on the streets. “Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar has taken a serious note of the incident and directed Assistant Commissioner of Police (Jaripatka Division) Parshuram Karyakarte to conduct an inquiry and submit a report to him immediately,” he added.
