Idea of converting Mure Memorial Hospital too getting takers

The idea of converting Nagarik Sahakari Rugnalaya into Covid Hospital that was put by ‘The Hitavada’ is getting lot of takers. Dr S Rajan, former District Governor of Rotary 3030 informed this newspaper, Rotary Club of Nagpur West was ready to spend money for the development of this hospital. Now Non Resident Indian Dubai-based Dr Sanjay Paithankar who hails from Nagpur also has showed willingness to run the hospital sans litigations. ‘The Hitavada’ on Wednesday ran a story of whether this hospital would serve the purpose of providing good Covid treatment.

After publication of this story, responses from all quarters started. Dr Rajan who himself a well-known Orthopaedic Surgeon told ‘The Hitavada’, “Rotary Club of Nagpur West had proposed Rs 40 lakh for the development of this hospital. This amount can be increased further. This hospital has 85 beds in ICU while 240 other beds which can be used as High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The hospital has infrastructure available. A little renovation would do wonders.” Dr Sanjay Paithankar who is student of Nagpur’s Medical College and has his roots in the city is known for his immense love for the city. He has contacted this newspaper after reading the report. He said, “I am ready to run the hospital but should get the guarantee that there should not be any litigation around.” Dr Paithankar visits Nagpur almost 10 times in a year and has connect here with the people of all strata. He runs a oration in his father’s name in the conference orgainsed by pathology association. In Dubai he is running over 40 polyclinics. Idea of converting Mure Memorial Hospital into Covid Hospital is also taking momentum.

This hospital too is centrally located and has got huge premises. This century old hospital is being strongly considered as Covid hospital. Various medical associations too are coming forward to run such hospitals. Developing existing hospitals into covid one would not bring much financial burden on exchequer and secondly, it would not take much time to be ready to treat patients. Lot of announcements have been made regarding setting up big hospitals. Erecting one complete hospital would take at least a year. Instead, developing existing hospitals would take less than three months. In the wake of Covid pandemic when the healthcare treatment, beds have become the need of the hour, idea of developing existing hospitals will serve the purpose, feel city doctors.
