Bhadbhada gates opened for ninth time

On Friday, sluice gates of Bhadbhada dam were opened in the in evening at around 5 pm. Bhadbhada gates opened for ninth time this year. Gate number 5 was opened for three hours by BMC Water Works Department. The water level in Upper Lake reached full tank level due to continuous rains in catchment areas. Rise in Uljhanwan river water level resulted in rise in Upper Lake water level. BMC team also barricaded and asked people to refrain from wandering at prohibited zones near water bodies. As rains were consistent, Bhopal Corporation (BMC) officials opened gates in the evening as soon as the full tank level (FTL) of Upper Lake reached its capacity of 1666.80 ft. Preparation were started to open the gates as soon as water level in Upper Lake crossed FTL mark.
 
People were alerted by sirens at around noon time. Bhadbhada dam is asset of 11 sluice gates at south east corner of Upper Lake in Bhopal. The gates are used to control the outflow of water from the lake to Kaliyasot river and is opened when Upper Lake reaches FTL mark of 1666.80 ft. The senior officials of Bhopal Municipal Corporation and MPWRD are in constant communication and water level in the reservoirs is being monitored.
