“Covid is a communicable disease. It transmits through contacts. Like common people, pregnant women too have the risk. Despite the same, the foetus in the womb of a pregnant mother has no risk and it has been proved through a number of studies. Therefore, safe deliveries would be possible even in the coronavirus period,” said noted Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, Dr Shivangi Jahagirdar.

“The pregnant women should take due care. In case of any symptom they should keep in touch with the medical experts. They should inform the doctors in case of any emergency.
The delivery is possible while taking all care. Recently, a safe delivery was held in NMC’s Panchpaoli Hospital and it has been proved that the foetus in the womb was out of risk of Covid-19. Despite this, the pregnant women should take due care,” she added.
Dr Shivangi Jahagirdar and consultant plastic surgeon, IMA Joint Secretary Dr Sameer Jahagirdar were discussing with the citizens during COVID Samvad a programme conceptualised by Mayor Sandeep Joshi and organised jointly by NMC and IMA on facebook live. Discussing ‘Pregnancy and Covid’ and ‘Care to be taken in Covid’ both Dr Shivangi and Dr Sameer Jahagirdar answered different queries of the citizens.
Stating pregnancy as a state of joy and happiness for a mother and her family members Dr Shivangi said, “ In Covid pandemic each person is in fear. The anxiety, stress and tensions are on rise. Remaining in isolation and following all possible security measures is the alternative to avoid the transmission. Pregnant women should avoid going out of their residences.
In case of having a positive patient in family or pregnant women as positive, the individual isolation is required. After completing eight months, a Covid test on pregnant women is performed. Even before, if any person of her family found positive, then Covid test is done. The pregnant women should avoid tests in fifth and seventh months. Instead of breastfeeding, the positive mothers should feed the child with a spoon. They also should try milk from a donor milk bank.”
Dr Sameer Jahagirdar spoke on the use of N 95 masks. He appealed to the people not to reuse the masks. Once used the masks should be kept in the cloth bag for 72 hours and soak in one percent solution of sodium hypochlorite for half an hour and then dry in sunlight. He also advised to consume Vitamin C and D, regular exercise and conduct frequent tests.
Dr Anuradha Ridhorekar and Dr Y S Deshpande also guided the patients.
