Nagpur’s ranking improves from 48th to 23rd in Smart Cities Mission

In what could be a good news for Nagpurians, the city’s ranking in Smart Cities Mission has improved from 48th to 23rd. With this, except Pune and Nashik, all other cities in Maharashtra are behind Nagpur. Kunal Kumar, Director of Smart Cities Mission, recently took a review of eight cities in Maharashtra selected under the mission of Central Government. He expressed happiness over the improvement of ranking of Nagpur. The city jumped from 48th spot to 23rd within a span of two months.
 
Nagpur utilised 100 per cent of Rs 196 crore grant received from Central Government under the Mission, stated a press release issued by Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) on Saturday. Mahesh Moroney, Chief Executive Officer of NSSCDCL, expressed gratitudes towards Sandip Joshi, Mayor; Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner, for their guidance in improving the city’s ranking under Smart Cities Mission. He expressed confidence that Nagpur would ‘definitely achieve Number One position’ in the ranking by December-end this year. Mahesh Pathak, Principal Sectretary, Urban Development Department, Maharashtra; and Chief Executive Officers of all smart cities were present during the review through video-conferencing.
 
As per the NSSCDCL release, Kunal Kumar also expressed happiness over the activities going on in Nagpur under ‘India Cycles4Change Challenge’ and ‘Streets for People’ initiative of Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development under Smart Cities Mission. He requested Sectretary (Urban Development) of Maharashtra that efforts should be made by all cities in the State to excel in Smart Cities Mission like Swachha Bharat Mission and others.
