The assailants came on 3 two-wheelers and attacked Kishor Binekar with sharp-edged weapons when he stopped his car at traffic signal near Bole petrol pump on Saturday evening 
 
SENSATION prevailed in Sitabuldi, Dharampeth and Civil Lines areas after a notorious gambler and restaurateur, who allegedly had connections with politicians, businessmen and police personnel, was brutally murdered with sharp-edged weapons in full public view at traffic signal near Bole petrol pump on Amravati Road in broad daylight on Saturday.
 
Late in the night, the cops took into custody one Ashish Ludarkar and launched searchfor others. The shocking incident took place just 500 metres from Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s residence. Kishor alias Balya Binekar (48) used to run a gambling den and a chain of eateries in the city including two Saoji Bhojnalaya near Bridge No 10, Kamptee Road, in Pachpaoli area, and Golibar Chowk. He was killed by five persons with an axe and knives allegedly over financial transactions. The killers, who were on two Honda Activa and a Royal Enfield motorcycle, followed Binekar.
 
They smashed the windowpane of Binekar’s Hyundai Verna car (MH-49/AS-200) after he stopped at the traffic signal near Bole petrol pump. One of them, who was on a Royal Enfield bike, first blocked his car at the signal. Others came after parking their two-wheelers near the petrol pump and started attacking him with an axe and knives. While trying to save himself, Binekar came out of his car and collapsed. footage of CCTV camera installed at the square revealed the gory manner in which the assailants launched attack on Binekar. Their brazenness and audacity while carrying out the act was shocking. One of the assailants returned after a few moments and again stabbed Binekar, who was lying on road near his car. Three attackers entered the car and came out after some time, possibly taking with them some material or papers. Passers-by got horrified by the sight and sped away. The killers intrepidly escaped the spot.
 
The news about Binekar’s murder spread like a jungle fire. Staff from Sitabuldi Police Station led by Senior Inspector Jagvendra Singh Rajput rushed to the spot. Traffic was thrown out of gear as Binekar’s body was lying near his car at the square. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Vinita Sahu, and staff from the Crime Branch’s Detection Squad also visited the spot. Prima facie, a senior police officer said, the murder might be fallout of financial dealings.
 
However, he said, nothing could be said till the killers were nabbed. “The entire incident has been captured in the CCTV cameras installed at the square. We have identified the killers on the basis of the CCTV footage and will arrest them,” he added. He said, “It was well-planned murder and we are investigating all possible angles to confirm whether it is case of contract killing or rivalry over personal or financial matters.” Sitabuldi Police registered a case under Sections 302, 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified killers, he added.
