Khamtarai police on Monday claimed to have arrested two bike lifters, including a minor boy, and seven customers of the stolen vehicles. According to police sources, the arrested were identified as Om Prakash Nishad (35), Sukhdev Banjare (19), both residents Rawabhata under Khamtarai police station; Pardeshi Ram Nishad (45) of Balod district; Chintamani Sahu (34), of Kosrangi under Kharora police station; Komal Nishad (40), a resident of Paragaon under Arang police station; Shankar Nishad (40) and Pravesh Kumar Sahu (19), both hailing from Mahasamund; Jitendra Kumar Sahu of Sondongri under Kabir Nagar police station and a minor boy.
 
“Om Prakash Nishad along with a minor boy have stolen around 17 vehicles from separate locations in the city and sold with the help of a master key. Based on information collected from the lifter-duo, police have arrested seven customers of stolen bikes and recovered 17 two-wheelers whose estimated market value would be around Rs 7 lakh,” said police sources. Police sources further informed that following a tip-off about a boy looking out for potential customers for selling two-wheelers at cheaper price, a police team swung into action and rounded him up.
 
During interrogation, the boy failed to produce any documents of the vehicles and later admitted to stealing it with the help of Om Prakash Nishad following which he was arrested. Based on information collected from the duo, police arrested seven customers and recovered the vehicles. Seven cases of vehicle theft were registered with Khamtarai police station, said police sources, adding that a probe has been launched to find out details of the vehicle owners.
