Teachers union has warned State Government of agitation if they are not insured at the earliest. Sanyukt Shikshak Sangh Chhattisgarh on Monday alleged that yet another teacher died of Covid-19 due to insensitivity of State Government and bureaucrats. Teachers engaged in Covid-19 duties should be insured with Rs 50 lakh each, government should make provision of appointment as Assistant Teacher on compassionate ground of any of the relatives of teacher engaged in Covid-19 duty and other safety measures for them, said Sangh State President Kedar Jain. Jain said that the teachers have been constantly working with state machinery engaged in Covid-19 work. As teachers are not skilled in health services, they are more prone to Covid-19 and therefore insurance of teachers should be done with utmost priority, Jain said. About 20 teachers, including four from Raipur, in the state have fallen prey to corona, he claimed.
 
The latest case is from the capital Raipur is Nilesh Dewangan who was posted at Government Hindu Higher Secondary School Raipur. Dewangan got infected during Covid duty, he said. On September 27, his health became serious.
 
An ambulance was called, but it was not equipped with oxygen. Due to lack of oxygen the teacher died on the way. The late teacher’s wife is also in the same profession. The wife of the Dewangan also got affected by corona. Other Sangh members Mamta Khalsa, Om Prakash Baghel, Arjun Ratnakar, Girja Shankar Shukla, Narottam Chaudhary, Maya Singh, Sohan Yadav, Tarachand Jaiswal, Rupanand Patel, Mukund, Amit Dubey, Sachin Tripathi, Santosh Tade, Pawan Singh has expressed condoled the death of Dewangan and paid to the departed soul. Sangh members alleged that, teachers’ lives are being put at risk.
 
They demanded from Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel insurance for teachers engaged in Covid-19 duties and other facilities. They have decided to submit memorandum at all district headquarters and Mantralaya on October 1 raising the issue. The Sangh has appealed the teachers doing corona duty that the application demanding insurance and other safety measures must be submitted to the SDM, BMO and BEO at the local level. The teachers will be forced to take to the street if government does not fulfill their demand, said Jain.
