Governor Uikey seeks report from officers within one week 
 
Governor Anusuiya Uikey held a meeting with secretary level officers at Raj Bhawan on Tuesday to review legal status regarding conversion of Gram Panchayats into Nagar Panchayats in scheduled areas of State. Governor has sought report of legal status regarding conversion of Gram Panchayats into Nagar Panchayats. The Governor told the officers of the Urban Administration and Development Department that constitutional provisions must be followed, while making Gram Panchayats as Nagar Panchayats in scheduled areas of State.
 
Uikey has also directed the officers of the Urban Administration and Development Department to keep the correct information of the rules and regulations before the Minister. The Governor said that she would discuss with CM for the same. Uikey further said that legal processes must be followed according to the provisions of the constitution for making Gram Panchayat as Nagar Panchayat, so that the rights of tribes can also be protected. Uikey said that on making Gram Panchayats of Ankar-Daundi, Premnagar, Narharpur, Bacheli Gram Panchayats as Nagar Panchayats, the villagers of those Gram Panchayats have submitted their objections and claims and requested to stay in the Gram Panchayat and not to make the Nagar Panchayat and appropriate action should be taken and send information to the Raj Bhavan within one week.
 
The Government has also directed the officers to follow the constitutional provisions regarding making Gram Panchayat Marwahi as Nagar Panchayat Marwahi. Uikey has asked Secretary of Department of Tribal and Scheduled Caste to inform her about the meeting of Tribes Advisory Council so that welfare agenda of tribals could be included. Policies, which have been included for welfare of tribals, should be given to the tribals, who attend the meeting of the Tribes Advisory Council. Secretary to Governor Sonmoni Borah, Principal Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development Department Gaurav Dwivedi, Secretary of Department of Tribal and Scheduled Cast D D Singh, Additional Director of Panchayat and Rural Development Department Soumil Choubey and Legal Advisor to Governor R K Agrawal were present in the meeting.
