Officials oppose Model Mandi Act, stage massive protest

In support of their demands, including salaries and pensions security, thousands of Mandi Board officials protested in State capital on Thursday. They protested by carrying placard in their hands and raising slogans. Demonstrators alleged that police used force against them when they were having lunch. Demonstrators have come from various places of State and protested under the banner of Sanyukt Sangarsh Morcha of Madhya Pradesh Mandi Board.
 
They said that they are worried for their future and salaries as private mandis have been made tax-free after coming of Model Mandi Act. They say that why traders would come to mandis to purchase farmers produce as in mandi taxes are needed to be paid. In such circumstances, mandi will suffer losses and they may face difficulties in getting salaries. State President of Mandi Karamchari Mahasangh Jaswant Singh Thakur told that demonstrators tried to go towards Mantralaya to protest but police turned them back.
 
Agriculture Mandi Board Officers, Employees Association, Angira Prasad Pandey said that Mandi Board employees have gone on indefinite strike and mandis remains closed across the State. He said that Model Mandi Act has cast shadow on mandis and hence they are worried about their future.
